Thank you to everyone who is sharing this petition, raising awareness, and encouraging others to sign it.
Jennifer Lacker, Bike Stonington President, and I were interviewed by Fox61 news Thursday afternoon at the site of Gary's accident. Our message was simple, but strong: This could have been avoided; our town and state need to do more to put infrastructure in place and protect those who bike our roads.
Since the segment aired, a member of the Stonington Community forum reposted the video and quoted both Jenn & I. The conversation that followed was incredibly energizing. It was - for the most part - positive and indicative that our community wants change. They want to know that our roads allow bicycles to travel safely. They are sick of nothing being done and sidewalks being the only focus. This presented a wonderful dialog, opportunities to educate, and an opening to encourage others to also sign this petition.
So, we will let this echo: please keep sharing and encouraging friends and loved ones to sign this petition. While the conversation reinforces what our community wants, we need something like this to prove it when we continue approaching our town and state powers. So far, they have refused to communicate any plan that will adequately address this.
Thank you for your continued support. We can only do this together.
