Protect Woodview Park: Stop Unsafe Road Development in Our Community

Woodview Park is a quiet cul-de-sac estate in Limerick, home to a long-established, close-knit community made up of families, children, and elderly residents.

We, the undersigned, are calling on decision-makers to immediately stop any proposal to construct a new road through Woodview Park due to serious and escalating safety concerns.

Why This Matters
1. A Cul-de-Sac Is Not Designed for Through Traffic
Woodview Park was built as a safe residential cul-de-sac. Turning it into a through road would bring increased traffic, speed, and danger into an area where children play and residents rely on a peaceful environment.

2. Emergency Vehicle Access Is Already Compromised
Due to ongoing parking congestion, emergency vehicles already struggle to access parts of the estate. Cars lining the roads restrict space and create dangerous delays. Any additional traffic would significantly worsen this risk.

3. Severe and Ongoing Traffic & Parking Issues
The estate is already under pressure from heavy traffic and is being overrun with student parking linked to the nearby Technological University of the Shannon.
This has created blocked access, reduced visibility, and unsafe conditions for all residents.

4. Loss of Right of Way and Residential Safety
Introducing a road through Woodview Park would effectively strip residents of their safe residential right of way, transforming the estate into a traffic route rather than a protected living space.

5. A Community of All Ages at Risk
Woodview Park is home to a unique mix of young families, children playing on the streets, and elderly residents. Increased traffic would put all of these vulnerable groups at serious risk.

6. Contradiction of Previous Safety Decisions
Historically, Woodview Park had two access roads. One of these was closed off by Limerick City and County Council due to safety concerns.
It is deeply contradictory that, at a time when traffic is worse than ever, there is now a proposal to introduce a new road back through the estate. This raises serious questions about consistency and safety priorities.

7. Serious Concerns Regarding the Part 8 Process
Any development of this nature falls under the Part 8 planning process, which requires proper public consultation and transparent decision-making.
Residents have significant concerns that past engagement has been inadequate and that the full impact on safety, traffic, and community wellbeing has not been properly considered. This process must not be used to push through a development that clearly endangers an established residential area.

8. Permanent Damage to a Residential Community
Once a road is introduced, there is no reversing the impact. The character, safety, and livability of Woodview Park would be permanently changed.

Our Demand
We call on local councillors and planners to:

1 -Reject any plan to route a road through Woodview Park
2 - Prioritise the safety of residents, especially children and elderly people
3 - Address existing traffic and parking problems immediately
4 - Respect the outcome of previous safety decisions regarding road access
5 - Ensure full transparency and genuine consultation under the Part 8 process

Call to Action
Woodview Park is a residential community — not a transport corridor.

Sign this petition to protect our safety, defend our homes, and ensure that no development is forced on our community without proper regard for the people who live here.
