Over 1000 signatures!! 😉

Every now and then, you hear the same old story in local pubs, village halls, charity committees, and every place where good people give their free time.

It goes like this:

A volunteer notices something isn’t quite right, maybe a process isn’t being followed, maybe a decision didn’t work out as planned, maybe someone has made a genuine mistake. The volunteer speaks up, because that’s what decent people do when they want things to be safer, fairer, or simply to help the organisation they feel so fondly about.

Instead of being thanked, they’re met with silence…accusations, fabricated stories to out them, or cold shoulders…or a quiet push to the sidelines.

In the end, the story becomes less about fixing the original problem, and more about keeping up appearances.

Sweep the issue aside, tidy it up, pretend nothing happened and if a volunteer ends up feeling bruised or pushed out, well, that’s treated as an easier price to pay than admitting a mistake.

It’s a strange sort of logic, really.
The very people who give their evenings, weekends, and family time are somehow the ones expected to absorb the fallout.

Volunteers aren’t the problem. They’re the heartbeat.

If organisations forget that, the cracks always show eventually, in trust, in morale, and in the very fabric of the community they’re supposed to serve.

The simplest way to protect an organisation is to value the people who keep it going.

Because when volunteers are treated well, everything else, safety, integrity, reputation, takes care of itself.

Please sign this petition and let’s support our volunteers… things need to change.
