Protect vital street trees in Far Cotton

Protect vital street trees in Far Cotton
The Issue
We are losing our street trees in Northampton. Urban street trees are hugely beneficial yet residents in traditionally tree-lined streets in Far Cotton are seeing them cut down, never to be replaced. Over the last decade some streets have seen half their trees, or more, disappear completely.
The benefits of street trees have been well established:
- They can aid our physical and mental well-being;
- They benefit the environment and create biodiversity;
- They help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour;
- They can increase house prices.
The benefits of street trees are recognised in Northampton Borough Council's own Tree Policy document. We're calling on local councillors to ensure the council adheres to its own Tree Policy. The council needs to start properly maintaining and managing the trees in Far Cotton, and Northampton more widely, to prevent the need for removal. It needs to start a programme to invest in, and replace those trees which it has already removed over recent years.
By signing this petition you are calling on the council to stop making your area a less attractive and less healthy place to live, as well as potentially reducing your house price.
