Our Student Hub is Under SiegePort Elizabeth Central is the vibrant heart of our city and a major hub for thousands of students. Yet, it has become a hotspot for violent crime. Every single day, women and students are subjected to harassment, muggings, assault, kidnapping, rape, and murder.Our sisters and students cannot walk to their campuses, residences, local shops, or transport hubs without fearing for their lives. Even in broad daylight, criminals target vulnerable young people. Due to slow police response times, unlit streets, and lack of visible policing, many crimes go entirely unreported because the community has lost faith in the system.We cannot study, live, or thrive when our basic right to safety is stripped away.
