There are some exciting developments underway, as noted by the Maverick article above. The Mayor and the City of Cape Town have heard our call for the vlei to be declared a nature reserve and very fortuitously at a time when they are in the process of deciding next steps for Paardevlei. Biodiversity and others whom we’ve been liaising with for a few months presented their proposal for a nature reserve and it was well received. We just await the final rubber stamp of approval. 

We met with Clifford Dorse and colleagues from Biodiversity and Reserve management to do a site visit on Wednesday and it was a very positive experience. We all have high hopes for the future of the vlei and are aligned in our goals and excited to work together to protect the wetland.
