The past few weeks have been busy in the anti-solitary world. The national campaign - Stop Solitary For Kids - launched. The campaign is a partnership of the Center for Children’s Law and Policy, the Center for Juvenile Justice Reform at Georgetown University, the Council of Juvenile Corrections Administrators (CJCA), and the Justice Policy Institute. This launch comes one year after the Stop Solitary for Ohio Youth launched its campaign. We are excited to have a voice at a national level sending consistent messages and garnering attention in the media. At the national campaign launch Ohio was represented by the Department of Ohio Youth Services. An opinion written by DYS' director is linked below where he talks about how reducing the use of isolation is possible and creates safer conditions. Additionally, last week the Stop Solitary for Ohio's youth replica of the solitary cell debuted at the Ohio State Bar Association's All Legal Forum. OSBA's Juvenile Law Committee helped sponsor the exhibit appearing at the conference. It was a huge success. We hope to share video and photos soon.
