Dear Resident / Petition Supporter
Re: Parking petition; Harrow Town Centre & Wealdstone Town Centre
We are sending this update to thank you for your continued support for our petition on retaining free evening car parking in Greenhill Way & Davey House Car Parks in Harrow Town Centre and Palmerston Road Car Park in Wealdstone Town Centre inc. Neptune Road etc. We are very pleased to have amassed over 1600 signatories thus far, but we know we can still get to our target of 2,000+ in order to trigger a debate on this issue at a full council meeting. We know how much this issue means to residents, local businesses and all those who visit our town centre, and we continue to push this with the Conservative-run council.
However, despite raising this issue numerous times with Conservative Councillors, our concerns on behalf of our community have been dismissed. On one occasion, these concerns were even laughed off by a senior Tory Councillor. Last week at a formal cabinet meeting, a Labour Councillor representing Greenhill and the town centre tried to raise the issue of parking on behalf of businesses but was immediately interrupted and prevented from asking her pertinent question. Then, to pour salt into the wound, the deputy leader of the Council said the parking proposals were merely ‘minor changes.’ This was a complete insult to town centre business representatives, present at the meeting.
We are aware that many in our community seek the reversal of this policy, and so our campaign will continue. If you continue to share our concerns about this policy, please circulate this mail with the petition link or QR code so we can get as many signatories as possible and let the Council know of the collective disdain for this policy, and the impacts it will have locally.
