Hey everyone. last month the TCEQ released a letter explaining their determination that the City of Corpus Christi's desalination permit application meets the legal requirements of the law and is ready to be given the go ahead from commissioners. This gives us an additional opportunity to comment to the TCEQ asking them to reconsider their decision before approving the Inner Harbor permit.
Could you help us out by sending a message to the TCEQ to demand stronger safeguards to protect our bays? Comments are due by January 21st which is only three days away. You can submit a comment by signing the Lone Star Sierra Club's petition or through the TCEQ's comment portal (Permit No. WQ0005289000).
Overall, not much has changed since comments were last taken in April last year. The City still has not done a far field model to study the impacts from desal and the TCEQ still has not evaluated the potential for hypoxia in the Inner Harbor, the Nueces Bay, and the Corpus Christi Bay. For more info, check out their response to comments.
We still have a shot to protect our bays from harmful desalination plants. Please stand with us and make your voice heard!
