I want to begin by thanking every supporter who has signed, shared, and stood behind this petition. Your commitment to protecting the kangaroos on the Benalla Golf Course and demanding transparency has been extraordinary. This movement exists because of you.

In light of the Benalla Golf Club’s recent media release, several serious contradictions have emerged that the community deserves clear answers to.

The Club publicly states that “no kangaroo harvest is currently underway.” Yet at the same time, they confirm they are seeking advice from stakeholders and experts regarding kangaroo management.

These actions do not align. Seeking expert advice, consulting stakeholders, and gathering information are the early steps taken when a harvest is being considered or prepared. If no harvest is planned, these processes would not be happening.

Adding to this, multiple concerned citizens who contacted the Club directly were told that the Club intends to cull 38 kangaroos. A specific number like 38 indicates that assessments have been made and planning is already in progress. This directly contradicts the Club’s public claim that no harvest is underway.

This raises a clear and reasonable question:

If no harvest is underway, why is the Club telling community members that 38 kangaroos will be culled while telling the media the opposite?
There is another major concern: The Club’s statement makes no commitment whatsoever to exploring non‑lethal alternatives. Not one mention of relocation, fencing adjustments, habitat modification, or any humane management options. Instead, the language focuses on “seeking advice” — without clarifying what options are being considered or ruled out.

When a club is genuinely open to non‑lethal solutions, they say so. This statement did not.

The community is not confused — the messaging is inconsistent, incomplete, and lacking transparency.

This petition has always stood for:

Honest, consistent communication
Humane, non‑lethal management options
Community involvement in decisions affecting our shared environment
Protecting the kangaroos that have lived on the course for generations
We are not anti‑golf or anti‑club. We are pro‑transparency, pro‑wildlife, and pro‑community. We want the Club to thrive — but not at the cost of the animals that make the course unique.

Thank you again to every person who has supported this petition. Your voices matter, and together we will continue to call for clarity, accountability, and humane management of the kangaroos on the Benalla Golf Course.
