SMMUSD Board Meeting is Today

Thank you for supporting the petition to prevent cuts to early reading intervention positions at SMMUSD. We’re close to 400 signatures, share this petition to maximize the signatures before the meeting.

The Board meeting is today (Thursday, 2/19) at 5:30 p.m. Details on attending, submitting comment cards, and/or emailing the Board are below.

A few key updates:

1. Reading intervention to kindergarten and 1st grade was previously eliminated by the district, an already unacceptable reduction. Services now begin in 3rd grade. The proposed cuts would eliminate the teachers providing this remaining support.
2. All impacted teachers already hold EL authorization
3. A separate resolution proposes cutting more than 20 custodial positions, also unacceptable.
