Update: We were recently provided with Seymour, IN Parks & Recreation Department Board meeting minutes that reference the creation of the disc golf course. I created a summary of events on a timeline to for ease of following. (see photo) 

Disclaimer: This is the information we were provided. There could be missing information that we do not have or were provided with when requesting information from the minutes pertaining to the issue. 

In summary: A citizen requested the proposal for a disc golf course in February 2021. Within that proposal, they recommended the concept and location for the course. In June 2021, the city ordered the equipment for the course and began installation. In or around May of 2022 an additional 9 holes were being planned to make an 18 hole course. The equipment was purchased through a sponsorship program for the additional 9 holes. 

What seems to be missing: A board vote on any of the above actions and any input from the public or other groups that use the park as to the creation of, purchase of, planning for, or location of the original 9 holes or the additional 9 holes of disc golf. 

Clarification on this petition's purpose and position on disc golf: We would like to applaud the city of Seymour and specifically the Parks & Recreation department on the addition of "alternate" sports being offered in our city. The intention and effort behind this was no doubt noble and that does not go unrecognized. The further effort to do this limiting the use of tax dollars through donations is appreciated. 

However, the placement of the disc golf course was either intentionally or unintentionally short sighted. More input should have been sought from the other programs and citizens that use the park.
