Friends and Supporters,

First and foremost, thank you — over 1,000 signatures! 🎉 Whether you signed our petition recently or have been with us from the beginning, your support is what makes this work possible.

We wanted to take a moment to update you on where things stand and where we are headed. 📍 We are pleased to share that Schools Beyond Screens SD is actively working with the San Diego Unified School District, and we are genuinely hopeful that we will see a meaningful resolution proposed next month. More importantly, we believe this fall could mark the beginning of real, structural change in how technology is used in our classrooms.

We don't say that lightly, and we want to be honest that this is the beginning of a long process, not the end. But the momentum is real, and we are encouraged. 💪

One thing we want to be clear about: we are not asking educators to shoulder this change alone. 🙏 Any meaningful shift toward intentional technology use must be accompanied by proper support and resources for teachers. Educators need time to plan and access to alternative materials to feel confident and equipped in making these changes. We are advocating for that support to be a non-negotiable part of any district-wide plan — because without it, the burden falls on the very people we are asking to lead the change.

We also want to name why this matters so urgently. 🚨 Online safety is one of our deepest concerns, and it goes far beyond screen time. We are talking about:

⚠️ Exposure to inappropriate content
🫷 The very real risks of cyberbullying
🔒 Threats to children's data privacy through apps that collect student data without meaningful parental consent
🤖 The unchecked use of AI tools on student devices
📱 The impact of algorithm-driven platforms on developing minds
▶️ Unrestricted access to platforms like YouTube that were never designed for children

These are not hypothetical risks. They are happening in classrooms and homes across our district every day, and our kids deserve better. 💛

At a time when so much in the world feels uncertain and out of our control, demanding a common-sense approach to technology in our children's classrooms is not radical — it is one of the most grounded, practical things we can do for the next generation. 🌱

With over 95,000 students in San Diego Unified, the stakes could not be higher, and the strength of this petition matters. The more voices we have behind this, the harder it is for the district to look away.

If you haven't already, please share our petition with every San Diego taxpayer you know. 📣 Post it on your Konstella pages, PTA Facebook groups, text threads, and social media. Every signature brings us one step closer to the change our kids deserve.
