"STOP IN THE NAME OF LOVE" ADDED TO AUDIO MESSAGE
This update is for Saturday, July 9 - Tuesday, July 12. The iPhone 12 memory capacity problem seems to be resolved now and I shot continuously for just over 2 hours on Saturday from 2:06 PM and then again for just over 2 hours on Sunday from 3:14 PM without any kind of problem. The videos from the upstream and downstream cams can quite easily be synchronized side-by-side to see the traffic entering and exiting the crosswalk with clear headshots from the downstream cam.
I refined the technique from Friday by placing myself in front of traffic entering the crosswalk and playing the "Please respect the red light!" message over and over until the white-safe-to-cross light goes out. This stops most vehicles but it really depends on how many pedestrians are actually in the crosswalk. If just one or two moves thru it and no one else appears, it is difficult to hold traffic until the green. Several people came over to say they lived nearby and thanked me for doing this.
It is now clear that the audio message can only include the please respect the red light bit and that the additional stuff about the YMCA is cute but doesn't really help at all. Later that evening, I made new audio using each of the Amazon Polly voices to say "Please respect the red light!" one after the other with a short clip from the Aretha Franklin song "RESPECT" in the middle.
I practiced this on Sunday and then further refined the message to add "¡Respeta el semáforo en rojo!" once after every two English messages. I also added the "Stop in the Name of Love" snippet to the beginning of the message and adjusted the amplitude of the Amazon Polly voices to match the musical clips, which were much louder. By Tuesday, the audio message had become much more effective and the tourist bicycles were regularly thanking me as were the pedestrians and some of the pedicabs. TBH, I don't understand why the tourists were thanking me. Some of the competitive cyclists actually stopped for the whole duration of the red light, too, although most of them just blew right on thru if there was an opportunity to do so.
