Hello Everyone,
I hope this email finds you well. I wanted to make you all aware of a very concerning change that the NJ State Board of Education is currently in the process of reviewing and implementing.
All NJ public schools are governed by the New Jersey Administrative Code (N.J.A.C.) Currently, the board is evaluating amendments to N.J.A.C. 6A:7 Managing for Equality and Equity in Education. These changes include language that would force schools who are separating students for health (sex-ed) to do so based off of gender identity as opposed to biological sex. There’s more than that in the revisions that are concerning and you can find details in This Facebook Post, This Facebook Post, or by reviewing the proposed amendments on the states site Here.
I believe that several of you found our district's plan acceptable based partially on the fact that these classes would be separated by sex. If the state adopts these amendments this will no longer be the case.
If you find this concerning, please email the state board of education stateboardoffice@doe.nj.gov before their meeting this Wednesday (1-11-23) and let them know you opinion. If we do not voice our concerns they will pass this and it will be too late.
You can also email me directly if you have more questions or examples of emails to send.
Thanks,
Rich
