During the 2 days OCT hearings this week, Mike Del Grande took the witness stand with questions posed by his lawyer. For two days straight, he was given the freedom to go off on tangents.
The majority of his ramblings repeated various perceived exemptions (to codes of conduct) due to faith based rights, though OCT lawyers had already made very clear they are take NO issue with him arguing religious doctrine... but, it was the way he chose to do it that is the issue at hand. He also went great lengths to try to paint himself as the victim in all this.
Two (among many) of his comments stood out as clear indications that he has made no effort to comply with education sanctions - and learn about the responsibilities school boards have under the Ontario Human Rights Code - and has made no effort consider the impact his actions have had on the school community.
MDG, June 2023: "I got news for people, the human rights code was written is such a way that section 19 exempts people in Catholic schools."
MDG, June 2023: “Early 1900’s we used to be a white christian country. People said its not going to be a slippery slope then…”
Almost four years later, the system people trust to uphold the dignity and safety of every student has failed them in this case.

The next court date is in July where his lawyer will continue their line of questioning before OCT cross examines and the next defence witnesses are called.
