Protect Our Students, Teachers, and Community—Reevaluate the Closure of Bowne-Munro

La causa

We, the concerned members of the East Brunswick community, urge the Board of Education to take a deeper and more transparent look into the proposed closure of Bowne-Munro Elementary School before making a final decision. While we understand the need for fiscal responsibility, we are deeply concerned about the financial soundness and timing of this decision, as well as the long-term consequences for our students, teachers, and district as a whole.

Closing Bowne-Munro will create significant disruptions for students, increase class sizes, and place additional strain on our already overburdened teachers. Our district is already struggling to provide adequate mental and behavioral support for students, and this change would only make matters worse. Additionally, the potential job losses and displacement of staff further highlight the serious ramifications of this decision.

While financial constraints may necessitate difficult choices, we ask the Board to ensure that this is not just another temporary solution—a band-aid fix that will create more challenges in the future. The people responsible for this decision must be held accountable for ensuring it is the right choice, not just the easiest or most immediate one.

We are calling on the Board to delay any vote on this closure until a more thorough review is conducted, considering not just the numbers, but the real human impact on our children, teachers, and community. Please listen to the voices of those affected and make a decision that prioritizes long-term success over short-term financial relief.
