Every student deserves to attend school in an environment where they feel safe, protected, and able to focus on learning. School violence, including the possibility of school shootings, is a serious safety concern that requires prevention and preparation from the entire school community.

This petition calls for schools to strengthen their existing safety measures and establish practical systems that can help prevent serious acts of violence before they happen.

We believe that school safety should not only focus on responding to emergencies. Prevention should also include creating a school environment where students can safely report serious concerns, teachers and staff are properly prepared for emergencies, and students who are struggling can be connected with appropriate support.

We are calling for schools to:

• Strengthen confidential reporting systems where students can safely report serious threats or safety concerns to authorized personnel.
• Conduct regular emergency preparedness activities so students, teachers, and staff understand what to do during different emergencies.
• Review and improve school safety procedures in coordination with appropriate authorities and professionals.
• Increase access to student support and counseling services for students who may be experiencing serious emotional or social difficulties.
• Provide age-appropriate safety awareness programs that teach students how to recognize concerning situations and seek help responsibly.
• Encourage cooperation between students, teachers, parents, administrators, and community authorities to create a safer school environment.

This advocacy is not intended to create fear among students. Instead, it aims to encourage prevention, awareness, responsible reporting, preparedness, and cooperation.

School safety is a shared responsibility. By strengthening preventive measures and making it easier for students to seek help when they notice serious concerns, schools can work toward creating an environment where students can learn without fear.

If you believe that every student deserves a safe learning environment, please sign this petition and support stronger school-safety and prevention measures.
