I wanted to provide some information regarding the antibiotic and the FDA registration it is under if anyone is interested!

Above is the Federal Registration for Cefovecin - CONVENIA (the antibiotic the cat received)

What the FDA did not do in this Registration that we hope changes in this antibiotic in the future and others is the following:

1. Stating the contraindications (side effects).

2. below is the indications of use copied from the registration- we hope in the future states- confirmed or highly suspected skin infection unless of an emergency.

Currently states- 

"ii) Indications for use. For the treatment of skin infections (wounds and abscesses) in cats caused by susceptible strains of Pasteurella multocida."

Side effects of the antibiotic and use are stated in the product page- but are not legally governed since there is no specific state laws about confirming infection before administration.
