Petition Update: We’re Making Progress — But We’re Not Done Yet!

I have incredible news to share: Alderman Reilly is officially drafting an ordinance in response to what happened outside of my building, where multiple dogs — including my own — were electrically shocked due to building negligence. THANK YOU. 🙏🏼

But there’s more we can do.

This experience has made it painfully clear that pets are not treated as sentient beings under the law. In Illinois, they are still legally considered property — which means when harm is done, it’s not acknowledged for the emotional and living impact it causes.

That’s why I’m launching a second petition to push for a statewide law change: to reclassify pets as sentient beings or create a new legal category such as “companion animals.” This would allow for stronger legal protections, accountability, and recognition of the value our pets bring to our lives.

📝 Please support and share the new petition so we can keep this momentum going and continue fighting for the rights and safety of the animals we love.

Together, we are showing that our voices do matter. And because of your support, change is already happening — let’s keep going. 💪🐾

New Petition

With gratitude,
Nicole
