Thank you for signing our petition to stop the development of Mountain Bike Flow trails in Lime Ridge Open Space. As part of the required CEQA (CA environmental quality act), the city of Walnut Creek has created a survey to get community input on environmental concerns. They have started the 30 period for this survey which will end on January 5. Please fill out the attached survey and indicate your desire to stop the development of Flow trails!
Some of the Environmental issues:
Federal and State Protected species - Alameda whipsnake and Mt Diablo Horned Lizard
Rare plant species - Mt Diablo Fairy Lantern, Mt Diablo Sunflower, Vinegar Weeds, Navareentia
High-speed bikers will impact animals and lizards due to noise and speed. It will drive them out of their habitats.
Bikers do not stay on marked trails and there is a real threat to adjacent areas of the Open Space from bikers going off-trail and creating illegal trails.
The Volume of bikers coming to the area will impact the hills.
Known Landslide risks
Known fire danger/risk on Lime Ridge hills
Known lack of enforcement of rules will continue to create environmental damage
The proposed trail bisects active waterways
Heavy human traffic which would occur if the trail is built will have a negative effect on wildlife use in the area!
The use of heavy equipment to carve up the hills will disrupt the wildlife corridors in Lime Ridge.
The wildlife corridor will be impacted by the noise of riders, the speed of riders, and the volume of riders that will be attracted to this MTB thrill ride.
Thank you so much for your help! We need to keep pressure on the city to stop the development of our Protect Open Spaces!
