GECKO, KANDAHAR - In the heart of Gecko, Kandahar, a gripping story unfolds, one that embodies the strength and resilience of an Afghan hero, Niamatullah Hussaini. This is the harrowing tale of a man who risked it all to secure the vehicles used by Canadian Special Forces,
only to find himself battling on multiple fronts, fighting to keep his family safe on opposite ends of the world.
Niamatullah Hussaini, a dedicated worker at Camp Graceland, had a singular mission: ensuring the safety and security of the vehicles relied upon by the Canadian Special Forces. His journey led him from Afghanistan to Canada in 2021, driven by an unwavering commitment to provide for his family, both in his new homeland and in the war-torn region he left behind.
Tragedy struck when the Taliban, notorious for their ruthlessness, uncovered the whereabouts of Niamatullah's brothers and mother in Afghanistan. They invaded their home, inflicting unimaginable horrors upon his family. Fearing for their lives, the family denied any connection to Niamatullah, desperate to protect themselves. They were left with no choice but to go into hiding as the Taliban returned, armed with a witness who could identify Niamatullah's family,
aiming to execute them.
The resilient mother and brothers, including a newborn infant, had vanished, relocating to an undisclosed location, all in a desperate bid for survival.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Niamatullah turned to Afghan volunteers, individuals dedicated to aiding their compatriots in their darkest hours. Together, they marched to their local Member of Parliament's office, imploring assistance to extract his family from the perilous depths of Afghanistan. Niamatullah also penned a heartfelt letter to Carla, outlining the dire circumstances and beseeching her help. An email, sent via the business card given to him by Carla's staff, reinforced the urgency of his plea.
However, the response, or rather the lack thereof, has left Niamatullah grappling with anxiety and uncertainty. No word from Carla or her team, even as his family's life hangs in the balance.
Refusing to succumb to despair, Niamatullah sought out the Camp Nathan Smith Group, a small collective of Canadian and Afghan Locally Engaged Personnel (LEPs) who had served and worked tirelessly during the Canadian Mission in Afghanistan. Together, they endeavor to bring attention to his family's plight and to beseech the Canadian Government and the Immigration,
Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for their intervention.
Niamatullah Hussaini has refused to surrender to the despair that surrounds him. He continues to persevere, working relentlessly to provide for his children and family in Canada, despite the overwhelming financial pressures and high rents. Simultaneously, he channels resources to his mother and brothers, aiding them in hiding from the Taliban's iron fist in Afghanistan. His unwavering hope remains that, through the collective efforts of IRCC and the Canadian
Government, his family will be extracted from the clutches of danger, ensuring their safety and securing their future.

Niamatullah's story is a testament to the unyielding human spirit in the face of adversity, demonstrating the lengths a person will go to protect their loved ones. It is a narrative of hope, resilience, and the unbreakable bond that family provides, even in the direst of circumstances. As the world watches, we are left to ponder when and how help will arrive, praying that this story ends not in tragedy, but in a triumphant reunion and a brighter future for the Hussaini family.
