Today reminded me why supportive community spaces matter.

Independence isn’t simply being told to “do things for yourself.” Sometimes it means having somewhere safe to talk things through, try ideas, make mistakes, change your mind and work out what actually helps you.

For neurodiverse people especially, everyday decisions can take a lot more mental energy than they appear to from the outside. Support should help build confidence and autonomy — not leave someone feeling as though every solution needs defending.

That’s why accessible, understanding community spaces matter. They give people room to learn how to navigate life in a way that works for them.

And here’s a shorter petition-style version:

Protect community spaces. Support people. Build confidence.

Community spaces aren’t just buildings or meeting places. They can be where people feel understood, learn new skills, build independence and find support without judgement.

For neurodiverse people, having somewhere welcoming and flexible can make a real difference.

Help protect the places that help people thrive.
