Hi everyone,
Back in March, No Limits Community Café & Hub closed its doors for the last time. What began as an effort to protect one local space has now grown into something bigger — a petition calling for stronger protection for community spaces everywhere.
So many communities are losing places that matter:
hubs
cafés
centres
volunteer-run spaces
support environments
The need for change is real, and it’s national.
That’s why December is an important month.
The English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill — a Bill that covers community powers and local protections — will have its Second Reading in the House of Lords on 8 December.
Although the Bill isn’t specifically about No Limits, it focuses on exactly the same concerns this petition raises:
how to protect important community places
how to stop sudden closures
how to give local people more say
how to strengthen community ownership and decision-making
After 8 December, the Bill moves into Committee Stage, where Lords look at the details line by line. This is where stronger protections can be added — the kind that might help other communities avoid what happened in March.
Your signatures, your support, and your belief that communities deserve better have carried this petition further than I ever expected. It’s now part of a wider discussion, and this December marks the next step in that journey.
Thank you for staying with this — and for helping keep community spaces firmly in the national conversation.
More updates soon,
Anna
