It's a turf war, and if patients don't speak up, those who get skin cancer will be forced into unnecessary surgery or radiation treatment in a hospital rather than in a dermatology office. Medicare is more interested in helping Mohs Surgeons eliminate a treatment that patients want, and they're bowing to pressure from hospitals and their radiation oncologists, who don't want to lose revenue to dermatologists working outside a hospital setting. The Mohs Surgeons are working through their member association, ACMS (The American College of Mohs Surgery), and the Radiation Oncologists are working through their association, ASTRO (The American Society for Radiation Oncology). There's nothing "American" about either of these organizations - they're taking away our freedom of choice. We don't have an association to look after us, but we do have this petition. Please share the link with everyone you know and ask them to sign and pass it along. Together, we can pressure Dr. Oz and his Deputy Administrator & Chief Policy and Regulatory Officer, John Brooks, to get on the right side of this.
