Friends:
SB 79 is currently "in suspense" in the Assembly Appropriations Committee. It may come up for a floor vote in the Assembly soon. It is crucial that we stop SB 79 from passing in the Assembly. Please contact your Assemblymember Jose Solache through his official website or by phone call to his Sacramento office -- (916) 319-2062. The message is simple -- Please vote no on SB 79. That's it. That's all you have to say. If you call, be sure you identify yourself as a registered voter in Lakewood.
Stopping SB 79 will not stop the current proliferation of ADUs but it will stop further restrictions on cities over housing development decisions. Active opposition to these new housing bills will also put Sen. Scott Weiner and the California YIMBYs on notice that their intention to make us all live in high-density neighborhoods is unacceptable.
Jose is a former Lynwood city council member and mayor and was the CEO of the Greater Lakewood Chamber of Commerce for several years, so he has a good relationship with Lakewood officials and understands the concerns and issues around the recent rash of legislation forcing cities to allow higher-density housing without local control. He was recently elected and has no voting record on this issue. We are hopeful we can count on his NO vote, but he needs to hear from us, his constituents.
Thank you!
Joy Janes
P.S. If you want to vent to Senator Lena Gonzalez about the ADUs going up in your neighborhood, here is her official website.
