It’s hard to recognize our progress. It gets drowned out by the stories of child sex abuse we hear every day. Priests, doctors, coaches, and teachers, who have been protected by their churches, hospitals, teams, and schools.  

But we are making progress.

The Child Victims Act, a bill that holds perpetrators, and the institutions that protect them, responsible for their crimes against children, has never been closer to passing. We’re confident itl will pass in 2019.

It has passed in the Assembly several times. It has strong support in the senate, including now two Republican Senators. And it has the support of the Governor.

It’s strongest opposition, the Roman Catholic Church, has been exposed as having a ‘Playbook for Concealing the Truth’ on child sex abuse. “Avoid scandal. Use euphemisms. Ask inadequate questions. Lock complaints away in a “secret archive.” Above all, don’t tell the police.” [New York Times]
