Advocates for children have been trying for twelve years to convince New York’s lawmakers to protect children, not the people who sexually abuse them. Twelve years where abusers get to circle a date on their calendar and say “I got away with it”. It doesn’t matter that their victim has received a lifetime sentence, it doesn’t matter that they are creating new victims. Twelve years is much too long. Now is the time to change it.
