Stop Abuse Campaign
Sep 25, 2017
We have never been closer to making New York a state that protects children from sexual abuse and that holds their abusers accountable. The Child Victims Act passed almost unanimously in the Assembly. We had media exposure and events across the state. It gained a record number of cosponsors.
But, a decade of heavy lobbying by well-funded opponents of this bill has poisoned some of the most powerful people in the state against this crucial piece of legislation. So we’re asking governor Cuomo to bypass the committee process and get this passed by April 1.
Governor Cuomo can do this, but he won’t unless he believes it’s important to New Yorkers. The 70,000 signatures this petition got last year sent a powerful message to him. Now we need to do it again.
Please, share this petition with your friends, family, and social media buddies.
Right now in New York, most sex offenders are protected from prosecution and very few children are protected from sex offenders. The Child Victims Act will fix that, but only if Governor Cuomo uses his leadership to get it passed before the regular session starts in April.
Thank you so much for your past support. If we all keep sharing this petition, 2018 may be the year that New York protects children, not predators.
