Will New York strengthen their laws protecting children from sexual abuse? We are closer than ever to passing the Child Victims Act in New York. The act eliminates the criminal and civil statutes of limitations on child sex abuse, and allows a one year window for survivors who have been previously denied justice to identify their abusers through the civil courts. Passing this act will make New York’s children safer and you’d think that all our elected leaders would support it, but they don’t. New York’s Senate Republicans led by Senator Flanagan of Long Island control the state senate and that’s where the overwhelming support and agreement ends. It seems that the Senator Flanagan again will prevent a bill coming to the floor for a vote. Shame on him. Today 43,000 New York children are sexually abused every year, and if Senator Flanagan has his way that will continue. Support Governor Cuomo, Senator Brad Hoylman,and Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal who are fighting to protect children. Share the petition and tell the Senate Republicans to stop protecting the perverts who prey on New York's children.
