Various updates on the fight to save Jingu Gaien from an ill-conceived redevelopment plan!
This week the Tokyo Shimbun published a poll of Tokyo voters, showing 69.5% opposed to the Jingu Gaien redevelopment plan, and just 5.7% in favor.
A computer graphic simulation has been created showing the planned Jingu Gaien redevelopment from various angles. Makes it clear what a monstrosity it is, and how out of scale and out of place it is. Worth checking out.
A study session was held last week with presentations by myself, an environmental assessment expert and an urban planning expert (in Japanese). A recording is available here.
I've tallied up 27 press mentions/reporting on the Jingu Gaien redevelopment controversy, in publications ranging from the Asahi, Sankei Shimbun, AERA, Tokyo Shimbun, Diamond, Gekkan Nippon, FACTA, Nikkan Gendai, SPA! and Yukan Fuji (that pretty much covers the bases!). Full list here at the end of the Japanese update just posted.
A couple of them were in English that I want to highlight here: Robert Whiting wrote about Jingu Stadium on his Substack, and I was interviewed by a vlogger about how I got involved with Jingu Gaien and give a detailed overview of the issues with the redevelopment plan.
We have just topped 86,000 signatures on the petition. Please continue to share the petition, and to post about Jingu Gaien on social media. We need to keep raising our voices until this terrible plan get retracted.
