Protect Iranian Students in Baden-Württemberg from Financial and Academic Hardship

Protect Iranian Students in Baden-Württemberg from Financial and Academic Hardship
Das Problem
The Problem
Iranian students in Baden-Württemberg are currently facing significant financial, academic, and emotional challenges. Severe inflation and economic instability in Iran have drastically reduced the ability of families to support their children. At the same time, the cost of living in Germany continues to rise, while job opportunities remain limited.
As a result, many students are forced to balance their studies, work, and basic survival needs simultaneously. In addition, there is a considerable psychological burden: many have families in crisis or war-affected regions and are constantly worried about their safety. Similar to the impact observed during the war in Ukraine, such exceptional circumstances can severely affect students’ lives and academic performance.
Our Demands
- Financial Relief (Emergency Measure)
Tuition fees for international students in Baden-Württemberg (approx. €1,500 per semester) should be temporarily reduced to the basic administrative fee or significantly lowered to ease the immediate financial burden. In a comparable crisis situation, it was decided on April 6, 2022, to temporarily waive tuition fees for students fleeing from Ukraine in Baden-Württemberg and provide additional support measures. A similar approach is therefore appropriate and necessary here. - Deadline Extensions & Academic Flexibility Students in exceptional circumstances must be granted uncomplicated deadline extensions, exam postponements, and flexible academic regulations—especially when their families are in crisis or war zones and the mental burden is high.
Why This Matters
International students make a vital contribution to German society, academia, and the economy. They should not be forced to abandon their studies due to circumstances beyond their control.
Our Appeal
We strongly urge universities and political decision-makers in Baden-Württemberg and at the federal level to assess this situation with the urgency it deserves and take appropriate action.
We ask all supporters to join this cause and send a clear message for fairness, equal opportunity, and the protection of education in times of crisis.
Every signature helps raise awareness and drive necessary change.
Thank you for your support.
Education for all – freedom for students worldwide.
