We appreciate your support on this important cause. As you are likely aware, this week, the Justice Department announced the opening of an investigation into DC MPD’s data collection practices and the House Oversight Committee will be conducting hearings on the District next month.

Now more than ever, it is incumbent upon the City Council to conduct a meaningful investigation into the divergence between the statistics being reported to the FBI and what appears on the MPD crime dashboard. The DOJ and the House are going to conduct their own investigations and highly publicize their conclusions. The District must do the same in a comprehensive and completely transparent manner that makes it possible to (1) regain the public’s trust, (2) push back on bad faith narratives, and (3) stop the erosion to DC home rule. 

It’s possible, even likely, that violent crime has dropped somewhat from the spike in 2023. But given what we know there is little to no chance that violent crime is at “historic lows” as some continue to push. It’s up to us to continue pushing for our Council leaders to do their jobs - the future of our city depends on it.
