On March 4, 2026, Commission voted to reduce the boat boundary from 300 to 218 yards—bringing motorized vessels closer to shore and overlapping areas heavily used by snorkelers.
*A final vote is still pending (tentatively April 6).

Dear Mayor and Commissioners,
Please reconsider the proposed 218-yard boat boundary. It places boats directly over areas where snorkelers swim, including Perry Rocks and our natural inner reef ledge (150–320 yards offshore).
For safety, boundaries should keep boats clear of popular shore-to-reef snorkeling routes. This protects both people and Hollywood’s reefs.
We agree with the Commission’s efforts to improve safety, and respectfully ask that the original recommendation to place boundaries ‘outside the nearshore reefs’ be extended to include protection for Perry Rocks and the inner reef ledge.
