Hello Petition Supporters;

The Public Hearing for the rezoning of Hadden Park for the Heritage Harbour Barge proposal  is coming up on one of these dates  July 21, 23 or 28. The online portal is already open for submissions for the public hearing .  https://vancouver.ca/your-government/contact-council-public-hearing.aspx  Click on the dropdown menu for CD-1 Rezoning: 1905 Ogden Ave.

FYI, the Kits Point Resident Association recently sent out this update below  to members:

"City Council considered the rezoning application on June 2, 2026 and referred it to public hearing which is expected to be scheduled for the middle of July. Residents will receive notice of the application.

KPRA made a submission to Council in advance of the June 2, 2026 meeting. Our submission is linked here.

Our submission is that the barge spa rezoning proposal is not consistent with the public trusts established under the Crown grants of the land it seeks to rezone. In addition it is our view that the City will be in breach of their duties as trustee in approving the rezoning in that they are taking into account the interests of third parties and their own interest in finding alternate funding arrangements for the Maritime Museum. The only interests that can be considered in applying the trust condition that the lands be used for the recreation and enjoyment of the public are the interests of the present and future public.  Funding considerations for a museum are not properly part of that consideration. This is more fully explained in the submission document linked above. https://kpra.ca/kpra-submission-to-council-july-2026/

We will resubmit this position for consideration at the public hearing.

The online portal is already open for submissions for the public hearing.  As we can expect the ABC Council will make its decision before the public hearing (how else do they come to their unified decisions so quickly and with so little discussion after hours of hearing submissions?) all residents who wish to contribute to the public hearing should do so well in advance of the public hearing rather than rely on presenting to the hearing. I also suggest that you email Mayor and Council directly in addition to submitting your comments on the portal. In that way they will hear what you have to say directly rather than having it summarized and filtered through staff.
