I am deeply moved by the cause of the penguins of Heard & McDonald Islands. These magnificent creatures are already threatened enough in their natural habitats. Indeed, their population has declined by approximately 30% in recent years, mainly due to climate change and human activity. Now, the U.S. administration has decided to impose a surcharge on the export of these penguins' products.

With few other viable alternatives, these penguins have no bigger market than the American market. This tax not only prevents them from exporting, which is already difficult in their delicate situation, but it also further undermines their already precarious status.

It is clear that these customs surcharges do not take into account the impact they have on the lives of these penguins and on the biological balance. We must act to strike a balance—one that does not endanger these Heard and McDonald Island penguins or other endangered creatures.
