Petition updateProtect grizzly bears by banning the hunt in B.C.B.C. Liberal government promised to eliminate grizzly bear trophy hunting in the GBR

In a stunning reversal of policy, the B.C. Liberal government has promised to eliminate grizzly bear trophy hunting in the Great Bear Rainforest. While we applaud this election promise as a great step forward, we must point out that Coastal First Nations (an association of nine First Nations on the central and north coast of B.C.) banned trophy hunting in the Great Bear Rainforest in 2012, but the provincial government steadfastly refused to support the ban despite the obvious conflict between trophy hunting and the region's burgeoning bear viewing industry, indigenous laws, and conservation science and ethics. Until now - one month before the provincial election. After this announcement, how can the Liberals continue to justify allowing the trophy hunt in the rest of the province, accepting large donations from trophy hunters, and running a trophy hunting guide as a candidate? This issue matters to British Columbians - the trophy hunt represents profoundly unethical and inhumane treatment of an iconic and threatened species. Please share this petition widely - we are almost at the 50,000 goal! Help us deliver your message before the election.
