Hello, 

Two years ago,  we worked  to protect these 13 acres of municipally owned agricultural land tied to Ferguson Forest agricultural system. I thought we succeded, after all the public ask was clear:

"Protecting it from land disposition and ensure continued collective agricultural zoning within the next municipal plan is essential to upholding our commitment."

Despite that commitment, an intensification overlay has been placed over those 13 acres within the DRAFT Muncipal Plan.

That is why we  have a Council deputation scheduled for April 21, 2026.

This is not just a technical planning change. It is a signal about the future of this agricultural system on CR 43. An intensification overlay directly undermines what the community fought to protect and casts real doubt on whether the promise to preserve this land is being honoured.

This is not about opposing growth. It is  removing the intensification overlay and urban service boundary on heritage agriculture which is part of the greater agricultural system.

North Grenville already has serviced settlement areas and development lands  for growth and investment. Meanwhile, the Provincial Planning Statement, 2024 supports focusing growth in settlement areas, and supporting local food systems and urban agriculture.

Our position remains firm:

These 13 acres should not be repositioned toward intensification, not fragmented and the urban service area placed back to CR43 as per the original land purchase agreement.
They should remain protected as part of North Grenville’s broader agricultural land system and long-term community value.

Our ask is clear on April 21, 2026: 

Restore the Urban Service Area to its original line at County Road 43 and remove the intensification pressure from these 13 acres so they remain intact within the broader 300-acre agricultural system. This would align with PPS 4.3.1.1 and 4.3.6.1, uphold the commitment to continued agricultural zoning, and direct growth to existing serviced areas rather than fragmenting agricultural land.

Honour the original public commitment by protecting this land from disposition and ensuring its continued collective agricultural zoning in the municipal plan.

Direct growth to existing serviced settlement areas, where it is policy-consistent and infrastructure-ready.

This is about accountability.
This is about land stewardship.
This is about whether North Grenville will follow through on what the community was led to believe had already been protected.
