Thank you for your support in this petition and welcome to the new year 2025! Your signatures are crucial in helping urge the European Commission to hold X accountable for amplifying extremist narratives across Europe and destabilizing the social fabric that upholds our democratic values.

Today, we want to share critical findings from our recent investigation into the platform’s recommendations for new users. Our investigation uncovered troubling patterns when we created a new account, pretending to be a 17-year-old from Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

The top recommendations on the “Who to Follow” page upon signup prominently feature far-right extremist profiles at all times. Accounts such as @RadioGenoa or @Martin_Sellner appear consistently in the top 5 results, regardless of how often the page was refreshed. While a handful of neutral accounts appeared further down the list, the overwhelming prominence of extremist profiles in the top 10 recommendations is deeply alarming.

Although this example is based on Germany, it’s reasonable to assume that every new signup across Europe is being shown similarly skewed content. The platform is effectively feeding people an extreme right-wing narrative. By consistently promoting these accounts to new, impressionable users, X primes young minds to accept anti-democratic and hateful rhetoric as normal.

We urge the European Commission to act promptly and take decisive action to address X. The unchecked promotion of far-right extremism cannot continue. The time to act is now!
