Petition updateProtect endangered and threatened species from becoming targets of trophy hunting.Help Protect Endangered and Threatened Species

It was two years ago when this petition was created to ask U.S. Congress to pass the ProTECT Act (The Prohibiting of Threatened and Endangered Creatures Trophies Act).  The importance of the Act is it will prohibit the taking of a trophy of an endangered or threatened species within the United States and ban the import of an endangered or threatened species trophy into the United States.

Unfortunately, at the time, the ProTECT Act was not introduced in Congress.  However, this Act has a chance to be reintroduced again and it is imperative that it does!

Now more than ever, it is paramount to ensure the ProTECT Act is supported and passed;

·      The allowance of trophy hunting of endangered and threatened species in the United States or importation of one disrupts the balance of species re-populating and of the ecosystems from where they came.

·      Many of the hunted wildlife are keystone species that actually support ecosystems. Keystone species are the blueprint to help keep our ecosystems balanced and intact.  Saving them is a simple solution to help save our planet.

·      We are living in a critical time where species are going extinct at an unprecedented rate.  We are currently in the world’s sixth mass extinction process.  The first 5 mass extinctions were all-natural phenomena.  This current extinction is almost exclusively due to humans. Dozens of species are going extinct every day and it is predicted by 2050, 30-50% of all species will be extinct.  Losing species at this rate will break down ecosystems that WE rely on for the health of the planet.

Supporting the ProTECT Act will be all encompassing because it will not only help protect endangered species, but it will also help to maintain the biodiversity needed to ensure the health of the planet that all of us depend on.

Please sign and share this petition and if you would like to take an extra step to get this Act passed, please call your federal representative and ask for their support in this piece of legislation.  You can find your federal representative here.

With gratitude,
