This evening, Cork City Council approved the rezoning of the 42-acre SS01 SE2 site at Moneygourney | Maryborough Hill.

While we are deeply disappointed, we sincerely thank everyone who supported the campaign. Your efforts ensured the community’s concerns were heard - but unfortunately they were not listened to by the majority of Cork City Councillors.

We wish to thank our ward Councillors Honore Kamegni of the Green Party, Independent Councillor Kieran McCarthy and Des Cahill of Fianna Gael who voted against the rezoning, urging Cork City Councillors to wait for the 2028 Cork City Development Plan.

Conversely local councillors Peter Horgan of Labour and Fianna Fáil's Councillors Terry Shannon and Mary Rose Desmond voted for the rezoning. The result of their votes will be felt by communities and commuters across Douglas.

On a positive note a key outcome was secured: an amendment requiring community amenities as part of any future development.

Although rezoning is approved, any development will still require planning permission and public consultation. We will continue to engage to ensure commitments are met.

Thank you again for your strong support.
