Another reminder of why the proposed rezoning of Green Belt lands at Maryborough Hill matters so much.

Once land is rezoned for residential development, it becomes increasingly difficult to stop large-scale housing schemes from progressing. We have been told by a number of councillors that there is already enough zoned land in the city. The proposed rezoning of Greenbelt land at the top of Maryborough Hill is premature because this site is 'easy to develop' and a mega estate can be delivered fast.  

This recent article highlights how more than 900 homes across Cork City were approved despite significant local concerns around infrastructure, traffic, schools, healthcare capacity and density.

Douglas and Rochestown are already under enormous pressure from ongoing development. Our community deserves a sustainable long-term plan with proper amenities, green space and infrastructure before more Green Belt land is released.
