ALL Friends of Del Mar Horsepark!

Our Horsepark landowner, the State of California 22nd DAA Fairgrounds Board of Directors, has directed staff and Southwest Strategies, a developers' lobbying organization, to explore opening all Fairgrounds land INCLUDING HORSEPARK to possible change of use, including housing.

WHY THIS MATTERS

  • Floodplain Danger: Horsepark sits on a 50-year floodplain--unsafe and unsuitable for any housing, lacking infrastructure for people unless 3 miles of sewer lines were built, as required by the City of San Diego for a similar floodplain property across the street.
  • No Transit Access or Shops/Services: Horsepark is located miles from any regular public transit system, precluding people living there without cars, more than 1.5 miles away from the nearest grocery store on a narrow, dangerous road without sidewalks.
  • Environmental & Community Value: Our public park borders a vital restoration zone, protects our open space and dark skies, and serves as a beloved public space for equestrians, dog sports enthusiasts, families and wildlife alike.

What You Can Do--Right Now

  • SIGN AND SHARE this petition: The 22nd DAA and their latest developer consultants Southwest Strategies both state in public that they are listening to public input. Give them input.
  • STAY INFORMED: Follow Friends of Del Mar Horsepark on Instagram and Facebook for updates. (www.friendsofdelmarhorsepark.com
  • GET INVOLVED: Volunteer, spread the word, write emails supporting Horsepark for horses to the decision makers (Del Mar Fairgrounds Board of Directors--c/o doleary@sdfair.com)
  • ATTEND PUBLIC MEETINGS: such as at The Sound, Del Mar, Tuesday November 18 at 6pm, 2260 Jimmy Durante Boulevard, Del Mar, CA 92014, and speak in person or via phone at Fairgrounds Board of Directors meetings (see www.delmarfairgrounds.com/p/public-information for schedule. )
