Atualização do abaixo-assinadoProtect Coolangatta's Heritage: Save Rainbow Bay SLSC & Snapper Rocks RoadURGENT COMMUNITY UPDATE – RAINBOW BAY & SNAPPER ROCKS

Hi everyone — it’s Ira here.

We need your attention urgently.

After eight months of community discussion, petitions, submissions, and public debate, the Rainbow Bay Masterplan was approved at Committee level this week.

However, the FINAL decision will go before the full Council meeting on 17 February 2026.

That means there are only days — not weeks — for councillors to hear directly from the community before this decision is locked in.

This is our critical window.

Why This Matters:

Rainbow Bay Surf Life Saving Club has stood since 1962.

It is not just infrastructure — it is:

• A lifesaving hub

• A training ground for generations of volunteers

• A cornerstone of surf culture

• A landmark at one of the world’s most recognised surf breaks

Snapper Rocks Road is not “just a road.” It provides vital public access and forms part of the identity of this iconic coastal precinct.

Major change to this area must be handled with absolute transparency and clear public confidence.

Yet serious concerns remain about:

• The absence of a detailed final design replacing the existing surf club

• How thousands of community submissions were evaluated

• The characterisation of opposing submissions as “misinformed” by third parties, effectively dismissing opposition.

• The transparency of the voting and deliberation process

• The long-term heritage and environmental implications

This is not about stopping progress.

It is about ensuring progress is done properly.

⏳ The Time Crunch:

The full Council meeting on 17/02/2026 is when this will be formally confirmed.

If councillors are to reconsider, amend, defer, or request further clarification — they need to hear from residents before that meeting.

Once it passes full Council, options become significantly narrower.

This is the moment for respectful, measured, civic engagement.

📧 ACTION REQUIRED – BEFORE 17 FEBRUARY:

If you believe this project deserves greater scrutiny before irreversible steps are taken, please send a respectful email to councillors immediately requesting:

• A deferral until detailed replacement designs are publicly released

• Clear documentation of the voting and deliberation process

• Transparent explanation of how submissions were assessed

• Assurance that heritage, access, and safety concerns have been fully addressed

Please remain calm and constructive. Strong community advocacy is most effective when it focuses on process and accountability.

What Is Already Happening:

Oversight bodies have been formally contacted to examine aspects of the decision-making process.

A petition to the Queensland Parliament is also being prepared to address broader concerns about consultation transparency standards.

Details will be released shortly in relation to the Parliamentary Petition.

This Is About Stewardship:

Rainbow Bay and Snapper Rocks are globally recognised.

They belong not just to today’s decision-makers — but to future generations.

No one is opposing improvement.

The request is simple:

Before irreversible steps are taken, ensure the community has been genuinely heard and provided with complete information.

If you signed this petition, your voice already matters.

Now we need it heard again before 17 February.

Thank you to every one of the 9,000+ people standing for transparency, heritage, and proper process, and let’s push that number past 10,000! Keep sharing this petition everyone!

More updates very soon.

With best regards — Ira
