There has been a troubling development.

Iranian-Canadian activist Masood Masjoody, whose disappearance in Burnaby raised serious concern, has now been confirmed dead. Police have charged two individuals with first-degree murder, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities have stated that the motive remains under investigation.

This case has understandably raised concern within the Iranian community and among many Canadians about safety, intimidation, and transnational repression.

In just five weeks, over 900 Canadians have signed this petition calling for stronger protection of Canada’s democracy and national security from foreign interference.

I have also contacted the Prime Minister, party leaders, and Members of Parliament responsible for national security, foreign affairs, immigration, and public safety, asking two key questions:

1. What actions has the Government of Canada taken to address foreign interference affecting people in Canada? 
2. What is the current plan to prevent and end these activities moving forward?

What you can continue to do now:

1. Support Parliamentary Petition e‑7153, which addresses related foreign interference and national security concerns.
2. Contact your MPs: Send them this petition and ask directly what the government has done so far to address foreign interference and what the current plan is to end this threat. The more public pressure we generate, the sooner the government will be compelled to publicly address enforcement gaps, our first critical ask.
3. Continue sharing the petition to raise awareness across Canada.
4. Encourage others to sign and learn about the issue.

If each supporter shares this petition with just three people today, we can quickly push this campaign past 1,000 signatures and bring even greater attention to protecting Canada’s democracy and communities.
