Protect Bocas del Toro’s underwater habitats!

Das Problem

My aunt, Randy Rawsthorne Cinski, has dedicated her life to the Caribbean Coral Restoration Center (CCRC), tirelessly working to rescue and recover existing natural coral reef areas in the Bocas del Toro archipelago. I recently witnessed the positive impact CCRC’s work has had on both the environment and the health of the local community in the Bocas region. Tragically, a recent fire at Ocean Sky (formerly Azul Paradise) on Isla Colon – where CCRC had built an underwater home for coral reefs and other marine life – has threatened this vital ecosystem. The city is currently dismantling what remains of the building, potentially destroying the precious habitat that lies beneath it.

Coral reefs are not just beautiful; they are also one of the most biologically diverse ecosystems on earth, providing shelter for nearly 25% of marine species (source: World Wildlife Fund). The loss of the Ocean Sky coral home could significantly disrupt the progress CCRC has made in improving local fisheries that are vital to the Bocas indigenous population.

We cannot stand by while invaluable habitats are threatened. We urge government officials to take immediate action to protect our underwater treasures during their cleanup efforts. This includes implementing measures to ensure that no further harm comes to these delicate ecosystems during the demolition or reconstruction processes.

Please join us in urging our leaders to protect Bocas del Toro's underwater habitats - sign this petition today!
