Announcment what we are adopting to combact climate change.
Our project focuses on using Zai pits (originating from the Sahel region) to combat climate change in Balochistan. This agricultural technique addresses soil degradation, water scarcity, and crop yield issues in arid regions by digging small pits and adding organic fertilizers like cattle manure. Due to its unique design, the pits capture rainwater efficiently.

SDG Alignment:
Our project aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

SDG 2 (Zero Hunger): Improving food security through increased crop yields.
SDG 13 (Climate Action): Mitigating the effects of climate change through reforestation.
SDG 15 (Life on Land): Restoring degraded land and promoting biodiversity.

Challenges Faced:

High labor intensity for digging pits.
Initial hesitation from local farmers.
Limited rainfall due to the region's arid climate.
Project Outcomes:

Agricultural Improvement: We noticed significant improvement in crop yields compared to untreated land.
Water Conservation: Pits captured rainwater, reducing runoff and ensuring moisture retention in Panjgur’s dry climate.
Soil Fertility: The pits enriched the soil with cattle manure, promoting healthy crop growth.
Farmer Empowerment: The project inspired local farmers to believe in growing crops in barren land using this method.
Impact and Vision:
While currently small-scale, our project has served as a proof of concept for sustainable farming in Balochistan. With increased awareness, we hope to expand the Zai pit system, transforming more arid areas into productive agricultural land.
