Firstly, a huge thank you for signing my petition. Your support means a lot to me.

Circumcision has been in the news a fair bit recently.

• A brave group of plaintiffs in the US have brought a case against Oregon’s constitution on the basis of a lack of equal protection for boys.
• Sadly, a baby boy has just died in Spain during a medically unnecessary circumcision that was performed by someone who was not medically trained - the child was just 45 days old.
• A struck-off UK doctor was recently sentenced to over 5 years in prison for his cruel circumcision practice. Circumcision is entirely unregulated in the UK, so despite being struck-off as a doctor, he was allowed to continue. The judge made comments in the sentencing remarks that regulation is urgently needed. I’ve written to the Department for Health and Social Care who plan to take no action despite the judge’s remarks.

I believe circumcision to be the biggest legal and ethical outlier in today’s society. If bodily autonomy is a human right, then why shouldn’t it apply to all children? With that in mind, I have two asks of you if you can spare the time:

1. Please write to your MP and the Secretary for Health and Social Care, Mr Wes Streeting (dhsc.publicenquiries@dhsc.gov.uk) and tell them about your concerns and share this petition.
2. Please share this petition with as many family and friends you have.

There’s a lot of momentum for this movement from around the world. But we must do what we can to spread the word and bring this issue into today’s conversation.
