May 18, 2021

Thank you for standing up for students by adding your name to the Math Matters petition and Open Letter to the CA Department of Education on the Mathematics Framework!

Urgent, Your voice is needed this Wednesday!

We need to flood the phone lines this Wednesday at the Mathematics Framework public comment hearing.

Attend the meeting by using this link: https://www.cde.ca.gov/be/pn/lv/index.asp and calling:
Phone number: (712) 770-4993
Access code: 5906620

The plan is to call in at 9am and listen (or just let it run in the background on speakerphone) until our issue comes up.This is agenda item #3. We can’t say the exact time, but it's likely to be close to 10am when it will open up for public comments.  We need you there!

You will be cut off after one minute, so all you have time to say is something along the lines of:

1.“I am (say name),

(state and affiliation or educational background/educator/parent of advanced children quickly if it is relevant),

I oppose the Math Framework as is because it heavily discourages acceleration and advanced/honors/GATE math classes and perpetuates harmful myths about the neuro diverse students that need these options.”

Feel free to change this wording if you have something that speaks your truth in a better way.

It can be helpful to practice timing one’s self to make sure this can be said in under a minute.

We will try to send out another email on Wednesday as soon as the public comments have started.  However, it really is best to call in ahead of time so you are ready and standing by to speak.

Thank you so much for standing up for students having options and access to mathematics! Your voice matters and is needed.  Please share this message - and the link to the petition - with your friends on social media.

See you on Wednesday as we unite for equitable access to advanced coursework in mathematics.
