Next Tuesday, voters in Michigan will take to the polls to elect new legislators and decide on ballot measures. And in Michigan, reproductive rights are on the ballot. Michigan’s ballot initiative, Proposal 3, would amend the state constitution to establish a new individual right to “reproductive freedom.”
This means an individual would have the right to make and carry out all decisions around pregnancy, including prenatal care, childbirth, postpartum care, contraception, and abortion. It would also forbid persecution of an individual seeking an abortion and prioritize a patient’s life in their pregnancy care.
Codifying the right to an abortion in Michigan’s Constitution is the best way to ensure abortion access and reproductive care remains for those who reside in the state. It is more important than ever to make a plan to vote. You can find your polling place here: https://mvic.sos.state.mi.us/Voter/Index
